If anyone reading this has information on Sable Wood, before or after 1950, please contact the owners using the Contact Us page.<\/p>\n<h3>1950s<\/h3>\n<p>It was \u00a0probably in the 1950s that Scots pine were originally planted by the Forestry Commission.<\/p>\n<h3>1980s<\/h3>\n<p>The Great Storm of October 1987 brought down many Scots pine in the lower part of the wood; their rotting trunks still lie in various parts of the wood. Photographs taken the day after the storm show almost entirely bare woodland floor.<\/p>\n<h3>1990s &#8211; 2000s<\/h3>\n<p>No active management of the wood seems to have taken place after the storm. Large numbers of Scots pine grew from the pine cones on the woodland floor,\u00a0along\u00a0with many native birch. Crowded together and competing for light, these trees were\/are poor specimens, \u00a0tall but with thin trunks.
