In Jan 2014 a formal Management Plan for Sable Wood was published [and submitted to the Forestry Commission]. The essentials of the Plan are:
- remove invasive species rhododendron ponticum and gaultheria shallon
- progressively thin the numerous Scots Pine to allow more light to reach the woodland floor and to give room for native species of flower, shrub and tree
- progressively increase the variety and amount of vertical structure within the wood, thus providing a greater variety of habitat for insects, birds and animals
- protect and extend the existing area of heath by removing overshadowing trees
